Posted: Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:14 pmA former city centre chip shop is reopening in a new guise - as a theatre venue.
Fishy Moores in Coventry, which closed last year, has been taken over by Theatre Absolute, which produces new plays and takes them on tour.
It took over the chip shop last year as part of a scheme to find new uses for empty shops.
The first shop front show, 'All The Things I'd Do For You', written by Chris O'Connell, is being shown later.
Mr O'Connell said Coventry had always been known for it creativity and innovation, and, as the country underwent difficult financial times, taking over the shop was a good way to re-think the role the arts can play in regenerating the city centre.
A council spokesman said it was doing what it could to support businesses and keep the city centre open for business.

It's a bit of stretch calling that particular building a 'former chip shop' as it was a fish restaurant for only a very short period in its history. I can't even remember who the first occupants were?

Now that you mention it I seem to remember bikes hanging from the ceiling. Not sure when and for how long though. If you hadn't mentioned it I'm sure I would never have thought of it even though passing through the arcade was my route home for many years!
