Coventry City Council will not be collecting the bins today due to the treacherous ice and snow, leaving many wondering how long they are to be left with their rubbish.

With Christmas only two weeks away it has left some residents concerned that their rubbish may not be collected until the new year.

Temperatures plummeted to minus ten overnight in the West Midlands leaving roads and footpaths in a dangerous way.

Council gritting on the main roads meant many drivers were able to make their usual journeys this morning but untreated areas are still very icy and dangerous.

The council have not yet confirmed when collections will resume but told the Telegraph that they will be announcing their decision late this afternoon so they can continue to monitor the weather conditions until then.

This morning the council tweeted: “Due to the adverse weather conditions, we have decided to suspend bin collections, including commercial waste collections, today - Tuesday December 12.

“We will keep a close eye on the conditions and post updates here. Thanks for your patience.”

Oddly enough I agree with them! (Yeah I know, wonders will never cease).

I wasn't even able to put my bin out last night as the wheels got stuck in the snow and if even fire engines are skidding on the ice then refuse trucks have no chance. The roads around here are jam-packed with traffic in any case.

What I don't agree with is dropping weekly collections in the first place as situations like this one were bound to arise as a result! :fuming:

The latest from the council:

Bin collections update

Conditions are improving so unless things change overnight it will be collections as usual on Wednesday. We will also have crews out collecting missed bins from Tuesday.

I've heard that last bit before! Also the footpath between my garden and the main road is still blocked with snow and ice. :fuming:
