Police urgently searching for girl seen injured in Coventry park
Teenager was "distressed" and with arm injury
A young girl is at the centre of an urgent police search after being seen with an arm injury in a Coventry park.
Officers have been working through the night after the “distressed” teenager was witnessed apparently self-harming at 8.30pm last night in War Memorial Park.
A member of the public contacted officers with their concerns about the girl, who is believed to have left through the Leamington Road exit.
The girl, who is thought to be 14, is described as black and possibly of Somali origin. She was wearing a blue school uniform.
A large number of officers and the police helicopter are searching for the youngster.
Inspector Darren Lee, from West Midlands Police's Locate team, said: “We urgently need to find this girl to make sure she gets the medical treatment and any other support she needs.
“We have been working through the night to trace her and that work continues this morning.
“We’re in contact with local schools this morning to try to identify the girl.
“While we are using all our resources to try to safeguard her, we really need the public’s help.
“We’re asking people to be vigilant, and would ask parents to check on their own children.
“If anyone has seen her, we need to hear from them as soon as possible.”
She was seen self-harming according to a report on the BBC.
