Man dies after being hit by train in Coventry

A man died on Monday evening after being struck by a train in Coundon .

The fatality happened on a section of track near to Station House on Coundon Road, close to Bablake School, and train services were suspended after the incident.

Officers from British Transport Police attended the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the Coundon Crossing area of Coventry at around 7.45pm yesterday, November 20, to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Ambulance service attended along with officers but sadly a man was found to have died at the scene.

“His next of kin has been informed.

“The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of a collision between a train and a pedestrian shortly before 7.50pm on Monday.

One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a man who had been in collision with a train.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The critical care car from the Coventry-based Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the HART team were sent, but told to stand down.
