Every home in Coventry is about to get a FOURTH waste bin
All Coventry homes are set to be issued with a new mini bin for food waste disposal as the city moves to fortnightly household waste collections.
The “food caddies” are set to arrive in Coventry homes by September - when the new bin collection arrangements will come into force .
Instead of being able to put green lidded bins out every week, those collections will become fortnightly. Blue and brown lidded bins will be collected together on the alternate weeks.
Residents will be given a caddie and compostable bin liners to store food waste during the week. Once full, they can put the liner with the waste inside their green or brown lidded bin when they are put out for collection.
As well as the new caddies, people will also receive a new waste calendar with revised collection dates.

Someone left a nice-looking black plastic 'battery holder' outside my door this morning, or at least that's what it looks like! It's a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. I expect YouTube will soon be filled with ideas for converting it into something useful such as a Bluetooth speaker.
We've also been notified that our collection day is changing from Wednesday to Tuesday but it's not entirely clear when the last Wednesday collection takes place.

Some one must of thought you wanted a blue tooth speaker 
there are some great invention on you tube I thought.
I was told by a young dustbin man it will be the 3rd week into September when the bins get emptied once a fortnight. If I catch them tomorrow I shall ask again.

New council bins introduced to save money cost taxpayers £95,000
Coventry City Council has splashed out almost £95,000 on providing every home in the city with ANOTHER waste bin.
The mini food waste bins will be distributed to every home before September - when the council will stop weekly green lidded bin collections and introduce fortnightly pick-ups.
Brown and blue lidded bins will be collected together on the alternate weeks - with brown bins now collected all year round.
Residents can use the “food caddies” and compostable bin liners to store food waste - which can then be put into the green lidded or brown lidded bins.
Council bosses say the move will save about £1million from the waste collection bill every year.
A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “We ordered 135,240 caddies.
“They were 70p per unit the total value of the order was £94,668.
“We will be delivering to 126,000 properties approximately.
“This leaves us additional stock for new build properties and then for give aways at roadshow events over the summer.”
I can see them being made into window boxes, lunch boxes, battery boxes, anything except the use for which they were originally intended.

lol so can I or sold. Will they refuse to take them when they have flies or maggots coming from them . I know you can't compost cooked meats . Egg shell potatoes peeling any raw veg and cooked veg you can.

I still don't see how having to organise yet another collection is going to "save £1million a year"?

At best this is creative accounting by the council, at worst it is outright lies.

People around here are still throwing bread out for the pigeons despite having received the new food waste containers and despite there being a sign right outside saying "Do not feed the pigeons"!
