Coventry cyclists honour 1870s Olympics star
Posted: Mon Jun 07, 2010 12:10 amCyclists have begun a 92-mile ride from Coventry to Much Wenlock in Shropshire to celebrate an early Olympic competitor.
Coventry-born Tom Sabin is credited with taking the first of the Olympic cycle races in 1876.
And Much Wenlock has been recognised as the home of the modern Olympics.
The memorial ride on Saturday and Sunday has been organised by Coventry Transport Museum as part of its Cycling Festival.
One of the 2012 Olympic mascots has been named Wenlock in the town's honour.
