A disused car park beside a towering student development could be used for sheltered accommodation.

Trustees at the Coventry Church Municipal Charities want to build 45 flats on the former car park in Coventry city centre.

The site is bounded by Hill Street, Ryley Street and Bond Street.

At the moment the former car park is being used to store construction equipment for the 20-storey student accommodation block being built in the neighbouring Belgrade Plaza.

The proposed three storey development of one and two bedroomed flats would provide rented accommodation for elderly, disabled and other vulnerable people.

The accommodation would be built around a central courtyard with a shared garden in the middle. There would also be common rooms for residents.

The main entrance would be on Hill Street.

There would be no parking so people with cars would have to use the neighbouring multi-storey car park.

A planning application for the development has been sent to Coventry City Council and people have until the end of August to make a comment if they want to.
