Extra collections will take place to catch up

About 10,500 homes in Coventry suffered missed bin collections over the past two days as refuse collectors called in sick and a bin lorry broke down.

The problems meant three crews were out of action on Wednesday and 6,000 garden waste and recycling bins in the south of the city were not collected.

Two refuse collection teams didn’t make their rounds today, which meant an estimated 4,500 homes did not have their garden waste collected.

Coventry City Council said it was laying on extra collections to catch up - including a Saturday shift.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “Operational issues including sickness and vehicle breakdown meant three crews didn’t get out yesterday.

“Three crews didn’t get out – two garden and one recycling round.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused and ask people to leave their bins out, we will get to them as soon as we can.

“We will have a crew out on Saturday to finish off any rounds we don’t complete during the week.”

They added: “Around 6,000 properties were affected yesterday.

“Today we have two garden collection rounds that have been missed. That affects around 4,500 homes. That is for the same reasons as yesterday.

“We are asking residents to leave the bins out and we will collect them and extra crews are working on Saturday to collect missed bins.”

And they think cutting back on weekly bin collections will help? :clown:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I've never seen so many bins put out for collection here as I did this week! There were so many they were completely blocking the pavement. Took an hour longer to empty them than is usual as well.

I can only assume it was because the collection here was missed last week?

The brown lid collection took place this morning. Trouble is that most had taken their bins in!

Not just your area I read elsewhere. I'm guessing they were behind with the other collections so put brown bins on hold.

Total chaos here this morning. Half the neighbours thought collection day had been changed to Tuesday and put their bins out a day early. Another half thought it was blue bins only. Some optimists in the next street even thought there would be a brown bin collection despite having had one only last week.

The city council has excelled itself. Not content with destroying the old city they're now determined to destroy the new one as well! :fuming:
