Driver's fury at state of New Union Street car park

A concerned Coventry woman has branded a city centre multi-storey car park as “filthy and disgusting,” saying she was horrified to discover blood on the walls and stairwells littered with used needles, urine and faeces.

Dawn Hickey spoke out after using the New Union Street car park , which she parked in on Tuesday morning, accompanied by her sister, to attend an appointment nearby.

Dawn said she used the stairs as the lifts were out of action, though Coventry City Council, which owns the car park, does warn on its website that there are no lifts there.

Speaking about her experience Dawn said: “It was a disgusting scene that met my sister and I at the New Union Street car park in Coventry.

“The car park itself looked very run down as we entered it and when we got out of the car to go down we found the lifts out of action.

“So we went to the stairs and were horrified. They were filthy. Urine, faeces, used needles, rotten food and half eaten pet food on the actual stairs.

“My sister was wearing flip flops and I was genuinely worried for her safety as we could clearly see used needles on the floor by the bannister.”

She added: “There was what looked like blood up the walls and the windows and stairwells had clearly not been cleaned for several months.

“There were cigarette ends, old alcohol cans and broken glass there too.”

Dawn told the Telegraph she was relieved her sister had not brought her children.

“My sister on this occasion didn’t have her two children with her because if we had there was no way we would have used the stairs,” she said.

“We only stayed as we had an appointment we couldn’t be late for and I’m unfamiliar with where else we could park.

“Honestly it was awful. The council then charged us £4 for less than two hours parking to walk through it.”

Dawn told the Telegraph she had emailed the council and was awaiting a response.

A Coventry City Council spokesperson said: “New Union Street car park is cleaned daily and we are sorry if standards haven’t been met this time.

“We will send a crew out immediately to clean where necessary.”

:rolling:

This council seem to be always playing catch-up. City of culture - My ar$e! The only culture in this city grows in a petri dish.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
