A cocaine-fuelled wedding guest who brawled with a man from another wedding party at a Coventry hotel has been locked up.

Roy Jones was in such a state that he had been asked to leave by the bride before clashing with his victim and knocking him unconscious.

Jones had denied assaulting Curtis Daly during the incident at the Windmill Village Hotel in Allesley in May last year.

But the 38-year-old changed his plea to guilty on the day of his trial at Warwick Crown Court.

He was jailed for five months after a suspended sentence he received for punching an elderly man in a road rage incident was triggered.

Jailing Jones, Recorder Alastair Smith told him: “It would appear that during the course of the day you consumed a significant amount of alcohol and took a significant amount of cocaine.

“There had been some form of altercation, and you had become drunk and offensive in nature, resulting in the bride from one party asking for you to be asked to leave the bar.

“You left with some animosity between yourself and members of the other wedding group, and at some stage you came into contact with Mr Daly.

“I am invited to sentence you on the basis that there was aggression on both sides, and that at the outset you may have been acting in self-defence.

“But the reality is that however this started, it ended with you going well beyond self-defence, and you accept kicking Mr Daly.

“By the time of this kick, you had turned into the aggressor. You had blood on your clothing.”
