Five people have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of a Nuneaton woman.

Police issued an update as they released an image of Dionne Clark who was found dead in a house on Cornish Close, off Ansley Common, in Nuneaton, on Saturday night. Paramedics were called, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force is appealing for information about the death of the 27-year-old and are, at this stage, treating the death as unexplained.

Police are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what occurred after an initial post-mortem was inconclusive.

Further tests are being carried out to establish a cause of death .

Officers are also keen to trace Ms Clark’s missing phone - a Samsung Galaxy - which may have been discarded near to the rocks at Manor Court School.

Warwickshire Police said a total of five people had been arrested, but one has since been released. Four others remain in police custody.

A statement from Warwickshire Police read: “A 19-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both from Nuneaton, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and perverting the course of justice in connection with death. They currently remain in police custody.

“A 33-year-old woman from Nuneaton arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

“Following further enquires; a 54-year-old man and 58-year-old woman from Nuneaton have also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remain in police custody.”

Det Insp Anna Middleton of the Major Investigations Unit, said: “We are also appealing to anyone who may have found the deceased phone, a Samsung Galaxy, which may have been discarded near to the rocks at Manor Court School.

“If anyone has any information that could help police with their enquiries they should call 101 and quote incident 492 of 17 June 2017. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org .”

Killer duo found guilty of murdering Nuneaton mum-of-four

Elizabeth Ellis and Dominic Wallis have been found guilty of the murder of Nuneaton mum-of-four Dionne Clark following a lengthy trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

In addition Dominic Wallis’s parents Karen and Kingsley Wallis - were found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The foreman of the jury told Judge Simon Drew QC that the jury had reached unanimous verdicts on the four defendants.

She told a hushed courtroom first that Ellis, 20, had been found guilty of murder and then that Dominic Wallis had also been found guilty of the same charge.

This was followed by guilty verdicts for Karen and Kingsley Wallis for perverting the course of justice.

As the first verdict was read out, Ellis looked shocked and shook her head from behind the glass screen separating the courtroom from the dock. Dominic Wallis remained emotionless.

The public gallery was packed, mainly with members of 27-year-old Miss Clark’s family and her mother sobbed as the verdicts were read out.

Miss Clark’s body was discovered on the evening of Saturday, June 17, and she had suffered 69 injuries to her head and face, including an injury to her brain.

She was beaten up and restrained using parcel tape, duct tape and the cable from a TV aerial.

Wallis, 28, and Ellis, who are both from Nuneaton, denied murder and blamed each other for the attack on Miss Clark at his home in Cornish Close, off Ansley Common.

After the Clark family left the court they could be heard cheering from outside the courtroom.

Judge Drew adjourned sentencing until 2pm on Monday February 12, though he said there was a possibility it might have to be further adjourned to allow for medical reports to be completed.

Following the verdicts the family of Dionne Clark paid tribute to her.

In a statement they said: “Dionne was a beautiful daughter, a fantastic mother and a great sister.

“She was sensitive, caring and compassionate and would think nothing of going out of her way to help others.

“She touched so many people’s lives in a positive way.

“Words cannot express what her loss means to all her family and friends - we remain heartbroken and totally devastated."

Dionne Clark's killers jailed for more than 32 years

The killers of Nuneaton mum Dionne Clark have been jailed for life.

Dominic Wallis and Elizabeth Ellis were last week both found guilty of Miss Clark’s murder following a two-and-a-half month trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Today they were sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 18 years behind bars for Dominic Wallis and a minimum of 14 years for Ellis.

If released by the parole board, they will remain on licence for the rest of their lives.

The judge passing sentence told them: “Dionne Clark was attacked and seriously beaten by one or both of you.

“You, Dominic Wallis, took the lead. I’m equally sure that where Dominic Wallis led, you Elizabeth Ellis, followed.

“This was undoubtedly a lengthy and sustained attack on a vulnerable victim.”

Also sentenced today were Wallis’ parents - Karen and Kingsley Wallis - who were found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Karen Wallis, 59, was jailed for 15 months and 55-year-old Kingsley Wallis for 18 months.

Killer of Nuneaton mum's audacious bid to get conviction quashed

Image

The killer of a Nuneaton mum has seen an audacious bid to have his conviction quashed fail.

Dominic Wallis wanted the Court of Appeal to over-turn his life sentence after being found guilty of the murder of Dionne Clark.

But the Court of Appeal has confirmed to Coventry Live that his bid has not been upheld.

His case was looked at by a single judge who decided not to allow the appeal.

A period in which he could have asked for that decision to be reviewed has passed with no attempt made.

While his appeal for his conviction to be quashed has been over-ruled, Wallis has had a successful application to the Court of Appeal to try and reduce his life sentence.

Wallis, who has to serve a minimum of 18 years, and Elizabeth Ellis, who was given a minimum of 14 years, will have their cases looked at by a bench of three judges at the Court of Appeal.

At the moment, their cases are with summary writers within the court.

It is understood that, once this process has been completed, their cases have to be listed and this could take up to ten months.

If successful, the pair could see their terms reduced.

There is no penalty (as far as I'm aware) for making frivolous appeals. IMO, this needs changing and anyone doing so ought have a minimum 5 years (without parole) added to their sentence.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
