Five arrested after street violence erupts in Bedworth

Five men were arrested in Bedworth last night after violence erupted on the streets.

One man was run over before another was attacked in Coventry Road just after 5.30pm.

Police were called to reports of three men attacking another man in the street.

At some point, a VW Golf was used to knock down one of the men.

Officers believe that two groups were involved in the incident and that they knew each other.

Five people were arrested and one man was taken to hospital.

An investigation is underway.

Detective Sergeant Carl Buckley said: “This is a serious incident of disorder that was witnessed by a number of people and we’re keen to piece together exactly what happened.

“At this time we’re treating the violent disorder and the collision as linked.

“Also at this time we believe there were two parties involved in the incident and that they were known to each other.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident as they may have information important to our investigation.”

The violence happened between 5.35pm and 5.41pm yesterday evening.

Following the incident one man was taken to hospital with a head injury where he was treated and later released and another man was treated at the scene for a leg injury.

A 32-year-old man from Bedworth was arrested on suspicion of affray and casing grievous bodily harm with intent, a 52-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 26-year-old man from Coventry were arrested on suspicion of affray, and a 33-year-old man and a 55-year-old man, both from Bedworth, were both arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
