Two people were taken to hospital after a serious crash in Longford this morning.

Locals told how they heard a loud bang as two lorries and a van smashed into each other on Longford Road.

The accident happened just after 10am.

Baldev Singh, owner of Longford Convenience saw the aftermath of the crash.

He said: “We just heard the bang and went out.

“The van had gone really close to the barber shop, they were really really lucky it didn’t smash into the shop or smash the window.

“There could have been lives lost.”

A G4S lorry, a Valley Wholesale Carpets lorry, and a white van were all involved in the crash, which happened by traffic lights close to Capitol Gym and Bad Boyz Barbershop.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said two people were taken to University Hospital in Coventry.

It’s unclear if the patients were the drivers of the vehicles, or pedestrians. No-one was believed to have been seriously injured.

Craig Brooks, installations manager at City Bathrooms didn’t see the crash happen but dealt with the aftermath.

He said: “I just heard a big loud bang and looked out the window.

“Obviously the main accident had finished by then and the smaller van had just started to drift to the shop.

“I went over, opened the door and took the keys out.

“It had come to a stop by then but it was just to make sure it didn’t go any further.

“The white lorry driver was pretty shaken up, he was pretty out of it, I think it was more shock than anything.”

It's a nasty stretch of road there. I'm surprised that there aren't more accidents.
