A pet cat had to have its leg amputated after being shot with an air rifle in Coventry.

Smudge was injured last Wednesday morning (April 12) and an x-ray showed she had been shot and the pellet was lodged in her front leg.

Nothing could be done to save the poor moggie’s limb and vets had to amputate.

A post from Smudge’s owners on the Coventry Cats Group Facebook page said: “We feel a responsibility to let Earlsdon residents know there is a safety risk to our cats.

“Our cat Smudge was shot with an air rifle between 7am-8am on Wednesday (April 12), which has resulted in her leg needing to be amputated.

“We live in Stanway Road and Smudge never ventures very far, but similar to other cats, we are aware that she goes into nearby gardens.

“Smudge is now back home recovering after surgery and these last few days have been very stressful for us all.”

Anyone with any information on the shooting or any incidents involving animals in the city is asked to call RSPCA Coventry 0300 1234 999 or Cats Protection Coventry on 024 7659 4116.

Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
