Police taped off areas in Camp Hill after the attack as they investigated.

Six police cars were sent to the scene after 999 calls alerted them to the incident.

The victim - a man in his 30s - was on Cedar Road in Camp Hill heading in the direction of Boots at around 5.20pm last night when he was reportedly spat on by a man.

The victim challenged the man but both he and another man then began to assault the victim using weapons - believed to be smashed bottles and a knife - before making off on foot towards Ramsden Avenue.

The attack is understood to have taken place between the Chess Centre, the Co-op store, the car park of St Mary's and St John's Church and the alleyway leading between Cedar Road and Hornbeam Close.

His attackers fled the scene.

The first man is white, around 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, in his early 20s, with short dark hair and a goatee beard. He was believed to be wearing a black top with red piping around the zips and dark-coloured bottoms.

The second man is white, clean-shaven, around the same height, of slim to medium build, in his early 20s, with shaved blond hair. He was thought to be wearing a grey t-shirt and a pair of grey tracksuit bottoms.

The victim suffered cuts to his back, neck and face as well as a suspected broken nose.

Officers are keen for anyone who saw the assault, who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously or who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

In particular, they would also like to speak to two teenage girls and a young boy who the men are understood to have been standing with prior to the assault, as they believe they may have information which could help the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 280 of March 6.

The path between Cedar Road and Hornbeam Close was taped off, as was the one between Hornbeam Close and Edinburgh Road.

A resident who lives near to the incident said: “It’s really scary, there are always kids in the street near the shop and to think they may have witnessed this or got caught up in it is awful.

“It happened in the daytime too, which just seems to make it worse somehow. It was really worrying to look out the window and see everywhere taped off. I hope the victim is ok and that they catch the people who did it quickly.”

It is understood that the victim was not seriously injured but an investigation is now underway to find the suspects.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said they sent an ambulance to the scene. The victim was taken to an undisclosed hospital for further treatment.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.

Two thugs who launched a vicious attack on a man in the street using beer bottles have been jailed.

Michael James Blackburne and Daniel Stuart Campbell were both found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with the unprovoked attack in Nuneaton in March.

They both stood trial at Warwick Crown Court last week and were sentenced to a combined total of over seven years in prison.

During the incident, Blackburne, 23, of Orchard Way, Nuneaton, and 24-year-old Campbell, of Beechwood Road, Nuneaton, assaulted a 39-year-old man by spitting at him, hitting him with beer bottles and punching and kicking him.

Six police cars were sent to the scene in Cedar Road, Camp Hill, after a number of 999 calls were made, although the thugs had fled the area.

They were later arrested and charged, while the victim required hospital treatment for facial injuries.

Following the crown court trial, Blackburne was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, while Campbell was sentenced to four years and seven months.
