A former teaching assistant from Coventry has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a pupil.

Thomas Adam Brown had denied a charge of sexual assault by touching but was today found guilty following a trial at Warwick Crown Court.

The offence happened while Brown was working as a teaching assistant at a primary school in Warwickshire.

The 28-year-old, of Gunton Avenue, Willenhall, will be sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on March 30.

He will also be sentenced for three counts of making indecent photographs of children after pleading guilty last year.

Detective Constable Gavin Lambert said: “We take reports of abuse of children extremely seriously and would encourage anyone with concern over a person’s conduct towards children to report it.”

Incidents can be reported on 101 in a non-emergency or 999 in an emergency, or information can be provided anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

A young girl’s parents were horrified when she asked them to play ‘the tickling game’ – and then demonstrated what a primary school teaching assistant had done to her.

And after one Warwick Crown Court jury had been unable to agree on their verdict, a second jury found teaching assistant Thomas Brown guilty of sexually assaulting the five-year-old girl.

Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court, where the judge who heard the trial is now sitting, Brown, 28, of Gunton Avenue, Willenhall, Coventry, was jailed for a total of three years and five months.

Judge Stephen Eyre QC, sentenced him to two years and nine months for sexually assaulting the little girl, and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.

In addition, Brown, was given a consecutive eight-month sentence for downloading indecent images of children, which he had admitted.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Brown had a responsibility to nurture and protect the pupils left in his care. Instead he violated those privileges by sexually abusing a child who would have looked up to, and trusted him.

“Brown has rightly been brought to justice for his appalling behaviour and we now hope his young victim gets any support she might need to recover.”

“It is vital anyone concerned about a child speaks out, as it could save them from harm. They can contact the NSPCC helpline in confidence on 0808 800 5000 orhelp@nspcc.org.uk, while children can contact Childline on 0800 1111 or via http://www.childline.org.uk.”
