Brazen thief snatches pensioner's handbag outside Nuneaton supermarket

Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman had her handbag snatched outside a supermarket in Nuneaton.

The theft occurred yesterday evening at around 6.30pm outside Sainsbury's in Vicarage Street .

The woman was walking near the entrance to the store when her bag was grabbed from behind.

The suspect made off towards Riversely Park.

Warwickshire Police have issued as description of the man who has been described as white, in his late teens and between 5ft5 and 5ft10 inches tall.

The thief was wearing a black Parker style jacket wtih a fur hood and grey jogging bottoms.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "She was near the entrance when the suspect approached her from behind and grabber her handbag, before running off towards Riversley Park."

When asked if this theft might be connected to a similar crime that took place in Upper Abbey Street on Thursday night, officers from Nuneaton SNT said they weren't ruling it out.

PC Gavin Parrott said: "We aren't ruling it out at this stage, I think it would be fair to say."

Anyone who might have any information on the thefts should call PC Gavin Parrott at Warwickshire Police on 101.
