Shanksy's The Bar With No Name was closed for a week last year as they tried to soundproof the venue
A popular city centre bar has once again had to close its doors due to a continuing dispute with Coventry City Council over noise.
Shanksy’s The Bar With No Name in Corporation Street announced last week that it would be temporarily closed while work to soundproof the building is completed.
Representatives of the bar said they hoped to be able to reopen as soon as possible, but no date has been confirmed yet.
The bar was forced to close in November last year because of a dispute with a council over the level of noise affecting tenants in the flats above the bar.
A council statement at the time said: “The bar have been having live bands on at the weekends which has been causing noise complaints from nearby flats.
“Shanksys were supposed to have a professional noise consultant visit last weekend to take some readings working in conjunction with the owners of the affected flats and see what work was needed and the council are waiting for the results of this work.”
Despite reopening their doors, owners announced on January 6 that they would be unable to open that weekend. This was followed by another statement announcing the temporary closure on January 11.
The new nightspot opened in October in the former Frangos restaurant.
The bar’s most popular feature which draws people from around the region are the ‘prosecco pods’ in Lesley’s Lounge where customers can enjoy unlimited prosecco from £20 each - depending on the number in your group.
For a total cost of £100, a group of up to five people can enjoy unlimited prosecco over three hours in the prosecco pods.
There is also a cocktail bar with experienced mixologists producing a range of tasty concoctions, including their signature drink The Red Biddy – made with citrus vodka, lychee juice, lime, sugar and a secret ingredient.
Inside the venue there is a dancefloor and a private hire lounge area described “as the Ultra VIP experience”.
Both the bar’s owners and Coventry City Council have been contacted for further comment.
Shanksy's have told the Telegraph that they will know more following a meeting on Wednesday.
