Coventry man found guilty of terrorism offence originally planned to fight in Iraq

Ahmed Ismail knew two people planned to travel to Iraq to fight for Daesh

A young man from Coventry has been found guilty of failing to tell police about two others he knew were going to fight for an Islamic extremist group in Iraq.

Ahmed Ismail was arrested in May this year by counter-terrorism officers having originally planned to join his fellow defendants in fighting for Daesh, but changed his mind after growing concerned for his brother’s safety.

His brother, Mohammed Ismail, had already travelled to Syria to join the terror group in 2014.

Ismail, 19, of Portwrinkle Avenue, Courthouse Green, was found guilty of failing to disclose information about the planned travel to the conflict zone following a trial at Kingston Crown Court in London.

He stood in court alongside Aras Mohammed Hamid and Shivan Hayder Azeez Zangana who were found guilty of preparing for acts of terrorism.

Ismail was arrested by counter-terrorism officers on May 22 at his home in Coventry.

All three will be sentenced in January.

Chief Superintendent Sue Southern, head of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “As a result of enquiries, counter-terrorism investigators discovered Hamid’s instrumental role in organising travel plans for himself and Aziz for preparation for acts of terrorism.

“Evidence shows Ismail, a local student, was in contact with Hamid and was well aware of plans to travel to the conflict zone.

“There is always a danger that people travelling to Syria and Iraq will be trained and come back and be a threat to the UK. We also need to be aware of the far-reaching effects on local communities and the families of those involved.

“In recent months we have seen the dangers of trained terrorists returning to Europe to commit acts of terrorism which emphasises how important it is for officers to prevent travel.”

I hope the judiciary perform their duty and send him down for a long while.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Coventry ISIS sympathiser jailed for 18 months for keeping terror plot quiet

A Coventry man has been jailed for failing to tell police about two people he knew planned to join Islamic State fighters in Iraq.

Ahmed Ismail was convicted in December of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism following a six-week trial.

The 19-year-old, of Portwrinkle Avenue, Courthouse Green, was today jailed for 18 months at Kingston Crown Court in London.

He was sentenced alongside the two men who planned to travel to Iraq to fight for the Salahaddin Battalion, a Kurdish IS unit.

Aras Mohammed Hamid, 26, of no fixed address, was found guilty of two counts of preparing for acts of terrorism and Shivan Hayder Azeez Zangana, also known as Azeez, 21, from Washington Road, Sheffield, was convicted of one offence of preparing for acts of terrorism.

Hamid, the mastermind behind the plans, was jailed for seven years, while Azeez was given a three-year sentence.

Sadly because it'll offend their 'uman rights!'

Far too many snowflakes in this country that have no idea of real life!
