A pedestrian is in a critical condition after being hit by a car close to the same spot where a 16-year-old girl died nearly three years ago.

The man was seriously injured in the collision on Saturday night near the Red Lion pub on Ansty Road in Walsgrave.

On Saturday night police officers were called to reports a man had been hurt in a collision with a silver Jaguar.

A 57 year-old man from Coventry was taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.

Sgt Alan Wood, from the police's regional collision investigation unit, said: “The investigation is in its early stages and inquiries are continuing.

“A number of witnesses have already come forward but I would appeal to anyone else who may have witnessed what happened to contact us. The collision occurred on the duel carriageway out of Coventry.

“The family of the man who has been injured are aware and with him at this time.”

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Alan Wood at the collision investigation unit on 101 or email FL_COLLISION_INVEST@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk.

The collision happened close to the same spot where 16-year-old Lucy Commins died in a car crash in the February of 2014.

Lucy was in a car which was involved in a collision with a car racing another vehicle.
