A Coventry supermarket was the scene of two emergency responses by firefighters in one day.

A fuel spillage followed by a crash saw the alarm raised twice within a few short hours near Canley’s Sainsbury’s.

Some 35 litres of unleaded fuel spilled from a car at the Fletchamstead Highway supermarket yesterday morning.

Fire crew from Canley were called out to Sainsbury’s petrol station at 10.37am.

They sanded over the spillage and the car was later recovered.

West Midlands Fire Service was then called again to a collision near the supermarket at 2.35pm on the same day.

One man had to be cut free after he became trapped by his injuries in the collision involving two vehicles.

He had hurt his arm and shoulder and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
