Organising your waste collections is set to become stress free as Coventry City Council launches a new app for rubbish.

The free mobile app, developed alongside Coventry University, has been rolled out across the city.

Your Rubbish lets residents know when their waste collections are scheduled for, what waste can be put in each bin and how to dispose of common household items.

Smartphone users who download the app can set up reminders to notify them of what colour-lidded bin needs to be left out and at what time.

If bin collections are cancelled for any reason the app will send a notification to the user’s phone to let them know.

The app also gives advice to users who may be unfamiliar with how collections in the city works.

There is an alphabetised list of household waste with information on how to dispose of each item and what bin it might go in.

There is also a checklist on how to put your bins out to ensure collection, including information such as 'putting bins out by 7am on your collection day' and making sure 'the handle of your bins are facing the road.'

A similar checklist is provided on why residents’ bins may not have been emptied and how to report a missed collection online.

The app is just one of the ways the council is trying to improve waste and recycling services in the city.

Is this really the best use of ever shrinking Council resources?
