Kevin Osborne, aged 59, was facing a long spell behind bars for attacking a girl under the age of 13

A convicted rapist from Coventry has died on the day he was due to be sentenced at court.

Police and paramedics were called to Kevin Osborne’s home in Dymond Road, Holbrooks, last week following reports that the 59-year-old had collapsed.

Despite the efforts of medical staff Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was found on September 29 - the day he was due to attend Warwick Crown Court to be sentenced for sexual offences against a girl aged under 13 between 2004-2012.

Osborn had denied charges of assault, rape of a girl under 13 and causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual acts, when he went on trial last August.

He was found guilty by a jury though and was bailed until last Thursday, when he was due to be sentenced.

The court did convene for a hearing on that day when they were told that Osborn had died.

A date for a further hearing, when Osborne’s death certificate is likely to be presented, has been set for October 20.
