John Wheldon chanted "beef, beef, beef" and "shop, shop, shop" before the attack

A controlling and violent husband who demanded his wife get him some food by shouting “beef, beef, beef” threw hot water over her when she refused.

John Wheldon, aged 49, attacked his wife last October after he started shouting at her while she was lying on the bed.

He walked into the room and threw something at her, continuing to shout “beef, beef, beef” - before changing to “shop, shop, shop”.

Wheldon’s wife told him that she wouldn’t go to the shop for him, and that’s when he returned with a kettle containing hot water.

Incredibly he continued to demand that she take him to the shop and despite being in excruciating pain she took him to Asda .

When they returned to their home in Dunsmore Avenue, Willenhall , Wheldon continued to chant “beef, beef, beef” until he took their dog for a walk.

Once he had left the home his wife rang for an ambulance.

The police came too and after he returned he was arrested - despite attempting to make a run for it.

Despite leaving his wife with burns from her neck to her waist and to her arms, he initially pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to causing her grievous bodily harm with intent.

And his trial was already under-way before Wheldon finally changed his plea to guilty, the court was told.

He was jailed for six years and nine months by Judge Stephen Eyre QC who also imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting his wife, except through solicitors, or going to the address.
