Fourteen bus diversions have been put in place

Commuters through Coventry city centre will be hit by more disruption as one of the city’s busiest roads is closed.

Cox Street, between Fairfax Street and Gosford Street, will be closed for the next eight weeks.

Starting from today and lasting until September 23, resurfacing work will take be taking place on the 300-yard stretch of road that goes under the iconic elephant-shaped sports centre.

Work will also be taking place to make repairs to the carriageway and drainage in the area following a sewer collapse earlier this year.

In June, the junction of Cox Street, Primrose Hill and White Street was closed after the mysterious appearance of rubble and mud on the road.

Severn Trent later revealed the flooding was caused by a collapsed sewer.

Multiple bus diversions are in place with National Express being forced to move many of their stops.

Here is the full list of bus diversions and alternative stops:

Service 2 and 3 towards the City Centre

Will divert via Gosford Street and the Ring Road to Fairfax Street
They will not serve Cox Street or Fairfax Street Sports Centre bus stop
Alternative stops are in Earl Street and Fairfax Street (opposite Pool Meadow)

Services 4, 10, 13, 13A

Will divert via the Ring Road
They will not serve Gosford Street or Cox Street in either direction

Far Gosford Street (Service 4, 13, 13A, 16 from City Centre)
Sky Blue Way (Services 10 from city Centre towards Walsgrave Road)
Sky Blue Way (Services 4, 10, 13 towards City Centre)

Hales Street (for services 13, 13A)

Services 8, 8A, 9, 9A towards Walsgrave

Will serve Gosford Street on journeys from rail station to Pool Meadow
They will not serve Gosford Street after leaving Pool Meadow

Services 8, 8A, 9, 9A from Walsgrave to City Centre

Will not serve Gosford Street
