The new bays are nearly 4m wide, around 1.4m wider than a typical parking space

A dozen new wide parking bays have been created at West Orchards Shopping Centre in Coventry for people with big cars.

The 3.8-metre wide spaces, which are more than 1.4m bigger than average, are on level five and are available on a first come first served basis.

There are also plenty of existing wider spaces for parents and toddlers and disabled people.

Centre manager Andy Talbot said: “We’ve all seen people squeeze their cars into small spaces, then struggle to get out of the door.

“As a centre we’re all about helping our customers and making their shopping experience easier and more enjoyable.

“We hope that our customers see the benefits in our new wider bays.”

Be nice if all parking spaces were that wide. Maybe cars wouldn't get damaged by people struggling to open doors and load their kids in.
