New Galley Common ward councillor Dan Gissane has launched a petition to get traffic calming measures across the area.
A PLEA for action to stop speeding motorists racing through a Nuneaton community has been made to highways bosses.
In a bid to get some much-needed traffic calming measures throughout Galley Common, an online petition has been set up to Warwickshire County Council, which is responsible for all highways.
It is the brainchild of new Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough councillor Dan Gissane who told the News that it is time for some action to be taken, especially along routes regularly used by families to get to and from schools.
"The area currently suffers from a clear lack of traffic calming measures," said the Galley Common ward representative.
"Residents are concerned about a number of road safety issues including speeding and a lack of safe areas for pedestrians to cross on Plough Hill Road, Hickman Road, Tunnel Road and Chesterton Drive.
"A number of young families walk along these roads to get to and from the nearby schools and the potential danger to pedestrians and other motorists is clear."
The petition will run until Monday, August 1 and it is hoped that enough signatures will be added so that the county council looks into the issues and, ultimately, take some action.
