To be fair, none of the present candidates fill me with any confidence.

Personally, I'm glad the man has gone. In my opinion, he was in way over his head. I understand circumstances were difficult for him, he had a lot to deal with and all, but he just didn't give me any confidence in his abilities. I got the impression he was drowning in some deep water. I said a few weeks ago, jokingly, that I thought he had some deliberate ploy in place to lose this election, so that then he could resign and let the labour party find someone else who might be more suited to the job. One thing I am sure of is that this was always going to be a good election to lose, because whoever took over, they've got a lot of pieces to pick up and fix.

I never had any faith in him - most of the time you couldn't understand him - and he never came across as speaking from the heart. Calling that lady a bigot was the final nail in his coffin I think. He messed up big time when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer over the 10p tax fiasco and failed to sort it.

The country's in a mess and it'll take years to sort it out - if it's ever sorted. I doubt it'll be sorted in my lifetime.

Brown's unguarded comments certainly didn't help but In fairness to him it was probably Alistair Darling who actually lost Labour the election by failing to bribe middle-income voters sufficiently when he became Chancellor.
