Police and the RSPCA were on hand after the lucky 13 were spotted on the busy road on Wednesday morning
These cute ducklings were dramatically rescued after taking a waddle down Coventry Ring Road during rush hour.
The 13 little brothers and sisters were spotted taking a morning stroll by a passer-by who rounded them up with the help of a friendly copper and the RSPCA.
The duckling’s mother was originally with them near to junction 5 of the Ring Road at around 8.30am on Wednesday however her babies have now been rehomed at a wildlife sanctuary.
Pc Stuart Wheeler, Coventry Police’s wildlife officer, said: “A member of the public rang up to say the mother and ducklings were travelling along the Ring Road close to junction 5.
“The lady had managed to get some of the ducklings together and we eventually managed to get the rest of them on to the roundabout by the police station to gather them up.
“We tried to reunite them with the mother who was flying around and even had the help of two RSPCA inspectors who also turned up, but the mother wasn’t having any of it.
“The ducklings were starting to get cold, hungry and a bit dehydrated so they have bene rehomed now in a local wildlife sanctuary.
“They are all happy and are being fed.”
Pc Wheeler said that it is a rare occurrence to see wildlife on the Ring Road, but when it does happen it is usually swans rather than ducks that are the culprits.
Two swans once held up traffic near to junction 2 after strolling across the busy road before being rescued and returned to Swanswell Park.
Pc Wheeler said: “We used to have ducks living by the police station and also at Quinton Park and near the university, although we aren’t sure where these ones came from.
“We have sometimes had swans landing on Foleshill Road and the Ring Road, and the problem then is that they can’t take off unless they are on water.”
