Hundreds of children have been sent home from school after concerns were raised over a potentially unsafe building.

Approximately 250 pupils in years eight and nine at Ash Green School , which sits near the border between Warwickshire and Coventry, were ordered home and told to stay away until further notice.

A stark warning posted on the school’s website today instructs youngsters to stay away after engineers were called in over a “possibly high risk” structural issue in one of the buildings.

It is understood the building affected is the school’s science block, and the Telegraph has requested more details from The Creative Education Trust which runs the academy.

The statement on the school website reads: “We are extremely sorry but one of our buildings has been identified today as being of ‘possibly high risk’ due to some structural issues.

“We are employing some structural engineers to carry out a full inspection as soon as possible.

“For safety reasons, we are unable to accommodate all children and must ask years eight and nine to remain at home until further notice.”

The statement adds that further updates will follow after work to resolve the problem commences tomorrow. It also instructs years seven, 10, 11, 12 and 13 to attend as normal.

The statement finishes: “We hope that the issues will be resolved in a short space of time. Thank you for your understanding on this matter.”

I must admit I find this rather 'naughty'. If parents keep pupils away from school they are often heavily penalised. Yet it's OK for schools to do this?

It really does smack of double standards.

Some of my grand children could nt get into a school for ages and then when they did it was way out of their local area even now they still have nt found a place for one of my grand sons 2 years on they have had to put him on a collage course plastering until they can find him a place.
