Builder rescued from roof of home in Nuneaton

Thu May 06, 2010 1:43 pm

A man had to be rescued from the roof of a house he was working on in Warwickshire after breaking his ankle.

Emergency crews were called to a building site off Queen Elizabeth Road, in Nuneaton, on Wednesday.

Paramedics alerted the Hazardous Area Response Team after it was clear the builder could not walk.

After his leg was splinted, the man was put in a stretcher strapped to a hydraulic platform and was lowered to the ground.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance was also called to the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the man injured his left ankle.

"It was not clear exactly what had happened, but the injury was sustained as roof trusses were being placed on the house," he said.

"Given the precarious position the man was in, there was excellent co-operation between fire and ambulance staff to get the man down safely."
