Staff put their evacuation plan into action late on the afternoon of Friday March 25 after a fire alarm was set off at the Swedish furniture and home wares superstor e.

It turned out to be a false alarm and there was no fire. West Midlands Fire Service were not called.

Store bosses will be looking at CCTV to find out how the alarm came to be set off.

Customers were told the shop, in Croft Road, Coventry city centre, was evacuated because of a technical difficulty.

Store manager Birgit Hartellius said: “Customer safety is the most important thing for us. We put the safety of our co workers and the safety of our customers first.”

Shortly after the evacuation customers were allowed back in to finish their shopping trips.
