This was the moment police pulled a young woman to safety from the edge of a city centre bridge.
Footage shows the distressed young woman on the Canal Basin bridge as traffic speeds along Coventry ring road 20ft below.
Good Samaritans intervened to restrain the woman before police and ambulance staff arrived at the scene.
A crowd of about ten people gathered on the bridge to help, and another woman was seen trying to comfort the teenager.
The incident lasted for about five minutes before the police arrived to escort the young woman to safety.
Police and ambulance staff were called to the scene just after 4pm on Saturday.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called just after 4pm by a woman expressing concerns over a friend.
“An 18-year-old woman was detained on the footbridge under the Mental Health Act and taken to a specialist health facility.”
A statement from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.12pm to a location given as a bridge at the junction of Bishop Street/Ringway St Nicholas to reports of a woman on a bridge.
“Crews were on scene within three minutes and were backed up by a paramedic area support officer.
“The woman came down and, after a check up at scene, was subsequently taken to hospital.”
