A place where people used to go to have their haircut in Nuneaton town centre could soon become somewhere they can pick up a takeaway.

Plans have been revealed to transform the former Reem Hair and Tanning Studio in Newdegate Street into a hot food takeaway.

Proposals have been submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council seeking permission to change the use of the prominent corner building from retail A1 to hot food takeaway, classed as A5, including extraction unit, which will be affecting a Conservation Area.

According to the design plans it will be called Charlie's Pizza and Kebab House and will be open from Monday to Wednesday from 12noon until 12am, from Thursday to Saturday 12noon until 2am and on Sundays and Bank Holidays 12noon until 12am.

The building has not always been used as a hairdressers, for many years it was a mortgage advice shop, but then became a salon.

But the salon closed some months ago and the building has stood empty ever since.

The borough council has set a target decision date for the planning application for March 24 and anyone who would like to view the proposal or make a comment can do so by logging on to http://www.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk, searching for application reference 033895.
