Three police officers forced their way into the woman’s house in Aldermans Green Road, Aldermans Green, this afternoon.

The woman was taken to hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated but West Midlands Fire Service said it was not thought to be suspicious.

Foleshill station commander Paul Wattling said the fire service was called at 2.49pm after the woman raised the alarm.

He added that there was no smoke detector at the property.

He said: “Our crews attended in four-and-a-half minutes. When they arrived three police officers had made a forced entry and rescued an elderly lady from a ground floor lounge.

“She was suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

“She had some burns to her arm where apparently she had fallen over an electric fire.”

The fire was contained in the lounge area of the two-storey semi-detached property.
