During an emergency operation surgeons used three metal plates and 12 screws to stabilise the fractures to the Wood End woman’s jaw.

Her injuries were so severe and the surgery to repair the damage was so intrusive surgeons had to remove her wisdom teeth before operating.

Detectives investigating the crime have described the attack as “sickening”.

They also revealed they are searching for 26-year-old Liberato - also known as Luca or Lib - Galiazia in connection with the crime.

Police were told of the attack two days after it happened and immediately started searching for the suspect.

They have released a picture of Galiazia, who is originally from Naples in Italy.

His last known address is in Bedworth .

West Midlands Police say all police forces in the country have been alerted to his wanted status and there are active efforts to trace him.

Anyone with information on Galiazia’s whereabouts should call police on 101.

Details can also be given to police anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Having taken a nasty crack to my jaw from the dog just before Christmas I can only begin to imagine the poor lady's pain. I hope the b*st*rd gets caught and she quickly recovers.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Man accused of horrific Christmas attack given 2017 trial date

The trial of a Coventry man accused of breaking a woman’s jaw in the days before Christmas will now take place next year.

Liberato Galizia denies the attack in Wood End in December 2015 which allegedly left the victim needing emergency surgery.

The 26-year-old, of Elkington Street, Bell Green, pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm upon a person earlier this year.

He was arrested by police as he tried to re-enter the country at Luton Airport in January after a manhunt was launched to find him.

A trial was originally pencilled in for July of this year at Warwick Crown Court, but has now been rescheduled for May 22, 2017, at the same court.

Galizia is currently on conditional bail.
