Man suffers serious neck wound in Coventry dog attack

A man suffered a serious neck injury when he was bitten by a dog in Coventry after a row with the owner.

West Midlands Police found the 26-year-old man at an address in Radford Road, after being told of the attack.

The dog, which was described as a Staffordshire or pit-bull terrier, had jumped up and bitten deep into the man's neck.

The dog and owner then walked off. The injured man needed 18 stitches in the wound.

Police have appealed for witnesses. The attack happened at about 1645 BST on 19 April. The dog and owner made off towards Bede Road.

Permanently scarred

Pc Ricki Allsopp said: "This attack left the victim with serious injuries and permanent scarring.

"The dog owner did nothing to help the victim get medical attention even though he was obviously bleeding from his neck."

The dog owner is described as white, 6ft 2in (1.87m), of stocky build, with a shaven head and ginger eyebrows and with a Scottish accent.

The dog was a tan male, with a white stripe running from its nose to the middle of its head.
