Cat found dumped in Coventry was just 'skin and bones'

A cat that was dumped in a Coventry street with “horrific” leg injuries will never walk properly again.

The young tortoiseshell was found in Dunsmore Avenue, Willenhall - just half a mile from where a puppy lurcher, described as a “walking skeleton”, was dumped just days earlier.

After being rushed to vets as it was just “skin and bones”, the nine-month-old moggy’s life was hanging in the balance.

X-rays also revealed the extent of its leg injuries, which are believed to have been old injuries that fused in the wrong position.

The cat made it through the first night and was being kept at the home of cat-lover Karen Peterson, who also footed the £300 vets’ bill for the treatment it received.

Mrs Peterson, of Burbages Lane, Rowleys Green, said: “The cat was found by a member of the public, but they didn’t have transport so asked on Facebook if anyone could take it to the RSPCA.

“My daughter got the cat and I then took it to my vet who took it in and were able to look after it.

“They didn’t know what would happen to it though as it has horrific injuries to its back legs and it was just skin and bones.

“They did say straight away also that as I’d took it in I’d have to pay the bill for it. I was in floods of tears by this point and I’m not flushed with money, but I paid it anyway.

“They didn’t know what would happen to the cat as it has got horrific injuries to its back legs.

“Also at that age it should weigh around 3.5-5kg, but it actually weighs 1.5kg which is horrific.”

The cat was found on Friday, September 11, at around 4.20pm, just two days after William the six-month-old lurcher was discovered curled up round the corner in Willenhall Lane.

He was found half-starved and unable to stand and was rushed in to the care of the RSPCA. He is now recovering in a foster home.

Mrs Peterson said: “They are the most awful injuries and seem to have happened months ago but have never had veterinary treatment.

“She must be one brave cat to go through that - the vets did some x-rays which showed that the bones in the legs have not set in the wrong place.

“She will never walk properly again.”

Anyone with information about either incident can call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.

What a wonderfully kind lady
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I'm horrified that she was expected to pay the bill when the organisation has already come under fire for the callous way it sometimes raises funds.

The RSPCA has just become a money-making machine as far as I can see :fuming:
