Hundreds of people attended Coventry first ever chilli-themed mini festival.

Organisers of the city’s first every Chilli Fiesta have promised to return and spice things up, if people show enough appetite for the event.

The one-day mini chilli festival was held in Broadgate on Saturday and attracted hundreds of people from across the city.

Visitors were treated to a vast array of chilli-themed products to sample and buy, ranging from chilli sauce and curry paste, to chilli pizza topping and cheese.

There was even a chilli-eating contest in the city centre square and a chilli ‘artist’ exhibited their work as part of the 15-stall strong event.

But organiser, Alexander Mustang, promised the event would return even bigger and better if residents wanted it.

He said: “We do this all over the country and this is small compared to what we normally do.

“This was to see how the people of Coventry take to it. Should people support it, we will come back, make it bigger and spice it up.”

There was also entertainment provided by Mariachi Ole, and The Voice UK contestant Tom Barnwell.

My housekeeper was in the habit of keeping spices in jars without labelling them. One day I cooked some rice and deciided to add some curry powder to liven it up. I was thinking at the time: "this is a bit red for curry powder?" It turned out to be chilli powder and my mouth was on fire for a week! :clown:
