Armed police swooped on a street in Coventry in a dramatic dawn raid.

As many as 20 officers - some with guns - converged at an address in Cramper’s Field, Coundon.

Police confirmed they were in attendance at the scene near Lawrence Saunders Road and Moseley Avenue this morning.

It is thought a man wanted in connection with a domestic incident elsewhere in the city that morning had taken refuge in a house there.

However no-one was arrested and police left the scene at about 11.30am after several hours.

A number of people living in the street described how they saw police with guns.

One resident said it did not appear that anyone had been arrested.

A resident of Cramper’s Field, who did not want to be named, said there were six armed police and three police cars at the scene.

She said the focus of police interest was a house in Cramper’s Field.

“We woke up and there was a policeman with guns outside,” she said.

“It wasn’t very nice and was a bit scary.”

Another resident, who also did not want to be named, said armed police arrived at about 6.30am.

“Armed police were here all morning,” he said.

“A police car blocked two ends of the road.”

A resident of Randle Street, which runs off Cramper’s Field, said police blocked off her road.

West Midlands Police said: “Officers were called to a domestic incident in Coventry at 4.30am, however the offender had left the scene.

“A vehicle connected to the suspect was traced to an address in Crampers Field.

“The property was searched in an attempt to trace him, however no arrests were made. Enquiries are ongoing.

A 'domestic' resulting in armed officers?

Must've been quite some 'domestic'
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I once witnessed a raid on a shop In Holyhead Road by men and a woman in unmarked cars, dressed in black, carrying guns and with no indication at all that they might be police. They could have been gangsters or terrorists for all I knew.

I saw something very similar just outside the ring-road one Sunday afternoon a few years back.

I could see no insignia and they had an unmarked nondescript van, but guns aplenty. I got the hell out of there!

I've also witnessed the massing of police before carrying out an armed raid. Again, unmarked vehicles and dark boiler-suit style clothing.
