Eastern Bypass will be closed EVERY night for a fortnight

Drivers are being warned one of Coventry’s busiest roads is closing every night for two weeks from this evening.

The A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass will be shut on the southbound carriageway between Binley Woods and Toll bar island from 8pm tonight to Sunday August 16 as part of the ongoing Tollbar roadworks.

The closure - which will mean a big diversion for drivers - is needed to allow essential work to be carried out to raise the level of a stretch of the road from Binley Woods roundabout towards Tollbar.

The existing road level needs to be raised in stages to allow enough time for the surface to cool down so that the newly-laid surface can be open to traffic the following morning.

During the closures, traffic travelling east on the A45 London Road will be switched temporarily onto the westbound carriage as part of a contraflow operation.

Road users will be diverted off the A46 into a diversion route which will be clearly signposted.

Paul Nagra, Highways England project manager, said: “We have planned the closures to take place overnight to minimise disruption and ensure that daytime traffic is not affected.

“We advise that drivers take extra care through the roadworks and follow the traffic management layouts that will be in place.”
