Three killed in Leamington car crash

Three people were killed after a car ploughed in to a tree and a wall in Leamington in the early hours of this morning.

Two more were hurt in the crash in Radford Road, near to the junction with Willes Road, at about 2.45am.

Police say that a blue Citroen Saxo was travelling out of Leamington on the A425 when it left the road and collided with a tree.

Two men aged 23 and 25 and a 27-year-old woman received fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other men, aged 20 and 21, were taken to University Hospital in Coventry where their injuries are described as stable.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police were joined at the scene by two ambulances and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A WMAS spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a car that had left the road and been in collision with a tree and wall.

“Two men and one woman suffered multiple serious injuries in the crash and unfortunately nothing could be done to save them and all three were confirmed dead at the scene by medics.

“Two further men were injured in the crash; one suffered serious leg and head injuries and received emergency treatment at the scene including being sedated.

“The man was then transferred by ambulance to University Hospital in Coventry for further treatment.

“Another man suffered back and neck injuries. He also received emergency treatment at the scene from paramedics and was transferred to the same hospital for further treatment.”

The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators examine d the scene, but has now re-opened.

Warwickshire Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident number 53 of June 20.

Man held over Leamington Spa triple-fatal crash bailed

A man held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after three people died in a crash has been released on bail.

A 27-year-old woman and two men aged 25 and 23 died when a car hit a tree and a wall on Radford Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire on Saturday.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, were injured.

The 20-year-old man, who was also held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, was bailed until 31 July.

He was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire after the crash, but has been discharged.

The 21-year-old man was undergoing surgery at the hospital for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash happened near the junction of Willes Road and Eastnor Grove.
