Air ambulance services in the West Midlands are now operational after being grounded due to the cloud of volcanic ash affecting UK airspace.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, and Midlands services were grounded at 1200 BST on Thursday.

The ban on Midlands Air Ambulance services, based in Shropshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire, was lifted at 1600 BST on Thursday.

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire services resumed at 0700 BST.

Their aircraft is based at Coventry Airport.

The three helicopters used by Midland Air Ambulance are based at RAF Cosford in Shropshire, Strensham Services on the M5 in Worcestershire and Tattenhill in Staffordshire.

The restrictions on UK airspace have been extended until at least 0100 BST on Sunday, as the danger to planes from the volcanic ash from Iceland continues.

But officials warn that European airspace could be disrupted for several days.

Dutchy - it is alarming as to all the disasters that have transpired over the last 2 years and I am lost as to why it is happening as the earth has been in existence for millions of years and I am coming down to Mother Nature saying that I am not happy with the antics of the residents of my planet :?:

Angler - I had a very similiar conversation with someone yesterday. A lot of things have happened in the last couple of yrs that haven't happened for hundreds of yrs. It's something we should all think about.

In this technological age in which we live where everything seems possible - Mother Nature always wins hands down.

We have the arrogance to think that we can change things?
