Crews from Radford and Foleshill attended Douglas House at 6.45pm yesterday (TUES).

A man’s jacket had been thrown out of an eighth floor window after it had caught fire. It is believed that the jacket had been accidentally placed on top of a lit cigarette in an ash tray.

It is understood the jacket was thrown out of a window when the flames couldn't be put out.

Fire fighters said the blazing jacket struck different ledges of the ten-storey flat as it descended, causing a number of small fires.

Plastic on the window sills caught light along with bits of rubbish. Fire fighters were needed to put out the fires using a hosereel.

A spokesman for Radford fire station said: “We were called to deal with three separate small fires at a ten-storey block of flats in Hillfields after a jacket, which was on fire, had been thrown out of an eighth floor window.”

A spokesman for Foleshill fire station said: “It was difficult to deal with the fires, since there were no balconies at this block of flats and the fires were quite high up.”
