A machete gang stole cash in the third terrifying armed raid on a Coventry shop in recent days.

Three men barged into the One Stop in Parkhill Drive, Eastern Green, at 10.30pm yesterday - minutes before the shop was due to close.

Staff were forced to hand over cash before the gang fled.

The raid is chillingly similar to one eight days earlier when three masked men stormed the Nisa in Winsford Avenue, Allesley Park and threatened to behead customers before escaping with thousands of pounds.

Police declined to say whether the two robberies were linked, stating that detectives were following up various lines of inquiry.

The latest armed robbery comes a day after another gang brazenly targeted the branch of Iceland in Binley Road with armed bars.

Again they escaped with a quantity of cash.

It’s understood that during the latest raid in Eastern Green one of the three robbers was armed with a machete.

The gang are understood to have trashed the inside of the store before threatening staff and demanding money.

No-one was hurt in the raid but staff are said to be badly shaken up.

Like the Nisa raid at least one customer was in the shop at the time of the robbery although no beheading threats were made.

Police have launched an investigation into the break-in and are appealing for witnesses.

Officers have been back to the shop three times since the raid and forensics teams have scoured the premises in an effort to identify the group responsible.

A spokesman for Coventry Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with information, to call Coventry Police on 101.

Alternatively if you don’t want to speak directly to a police officer call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
