A car burst into flames during this morning's rush hour in Coventry.

The drama unfolded in Binley Road, near Copsewood Medical Centre, just after 9am.

The fire added to the long tailbacks caused by a serious crash between a car and a cyclist at the junction of Binley Road and Hipswell Highway earlier in the morning.

The driver of the fire-damaged Honda Civic Type-R, who did not want to be named, told our reporter: "I was sitting in traffic waiting for it to move along when a van driver on the opposite carriageway shouted 'You might want to check under your bonnet mate, there's smoke coming from it.'"

The engine and most of the front end of the car were destroyed in the blaze.
