An investigation into a sex attack in Kenilworth has been shelved after police discovered that the incident didn’t actually occur.

Officers from Warwickshire Police were called to Dalehouse Lane at 5.15am yesterday to reports that a young woman in her 20s had been attacked after being approached by two men.

A full-scale investigation was launched with police searching the area, conducting door to door inquiries and scouring CCTV footage.

Dalehouse Lane was also closed for several hours.

But police revealed today that the investigation had ended.

Det Insp Liam Barry said: “From our inquiries and further interviews with the woman involved we have established that the reported offence did not occur.

"We would like to thank the community in Kenilworth for their help and reassure people that a full and thorough investigation was carried out.”

It is not known whether the woman will now face criminal charges.

If a false complaint has been made, I hope the full force of the law will now prevail. Women who make false claims like this are a menace.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I agree but there's a fear that if they were to be prosecuted then genuine victims would be frightened to come forwards.
