Masked intruders attacked a man and his dog with a baseball bat during a terrifying burglary in Hatton.

Five men forced their way into the property in Mollington Grove at 11pm on Monday before threatening the occupants.

One of the gang eventually lashed out, hitting a 48-year-old man and his pet Staffordshire bull terrier.

Despite their threats the burglars eventually fled empty handed.

The man who was attacked was taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment to cuts on his head.

His pet dog received veterinary treatment for injuries to its face and head.

Police have launched an appeal into the burglary, which happened close to Hatton Park on a new housing estate.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anyone living in Mollington Grove, or the adjoining roads in Hatton Park, who may have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary at around 11pm on Monday night.

“We would also like to hear from anyone with CCTV cameras overlooking Mollington Grove or the adjoining roads.”

Police believe that as many as five intruders could have been involved in the raid in the village on the outskirts of Warwick.

Anyone with information should call Insp Dom Kennedy at Leamington CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
