Vandals smashed the windows of a popular Coventry cafe before lobbing stones at nearby canal boats.

Owners of The Country Crust Tearooms Suki Singh and Sabrina Claire arrived at the shop in the city centre Canal Basin yesterday morning to find that three windows had been smashed.

They had to clean the inside of the shop to get rid of any broken glass before opening up.

Suki said: “We’ve had three break-ins before but this time it’s smashed windows.

“It’s a real nuisance. We’ve got bars on the windows now to try and stop any future break-ins.

“That said there’s nothing in here worth stealing anyway – we’re a small tearoom.

“Unless of course you really fancied a can of drink or a bar of chocolate.”

Police were called to the venue at 8am yesterday morning after calls from nearby businesses raised the alarm.

Canal boaters moored near the tea room in the canal basin said they had heard a group of young men in the area throwing stones.

They said the yobs had hurled stones at canal boats.

Shortly after the incident some of the boats affected left the area.

Suki added: “Normally we would call the police or the council and ask them to have a look at the CCTV but the cameras never seem to be in the right position.

“By the time we’ve got the windows replaced it will probably cost more than the excess on our insurance, so it’s not worth claiming as nothing was stolen.

“It’s just a real nuisance, as well as a waste of time.

“We don’t get too many boaters in here these days. We think they’re put off from coming to Coventry.”

Police are investigating the incident. Call 101.

Words fail.

Even if caught, these morons won't get what they deserve. A public birching would ensure that they thought twice before carrying out vandalism again. :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
