Postby dutchman » Fri Jun 27, 2014 4:26 pm

A man from Coventry lost three teeth and needed 20 stitches in an unprovoked street attack which left him unconscious.

The assault happened as the 34-year-old man was walking to a friend’s home at about 10pm on Friday, May 23.

He was approached from behind in Northumberland Road, Spon End, and received an unexpected blow to the left side of his ear, causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the floor.

The man was unconscious for several minutes before being able to get to his feet and stumble to the walk-in medical centre in Hillfields.

He suffered a large cut to his top lip, which needed 20 stitches, another five stitches to the inside of his mouth and dental work to remove three teeth, as well as whiplash.

Detective Constable Jim Clarke , investigating the case, said: “We urge anyone with information or witnesses to this vicious assault to come forward.

“This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man resulting in serious injuries to his face and causing him to lose his teeth.

“He was unconscious on the floor for several minutes so we are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything or have any information to assist our lines of enquiry.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
